Ma Navu
The name "Ma Navu" means "how beautiful". We don't know its choreographer.
This traditional dance was originally written for the song named "Ma Navu" but
is now used for many songs.
Except for the end of Part B the entire dance is done facing
into the circle, not holding hands.
Each numbered step takes two beats of music.
Part A
- {hands on hips} Point with R toe forward
- {hands on hips} Point with R toe to the right side
- {hands sway backwards) Step back with R foot, then bring L foot back to meet it
- {hands sway forwards} Step forward with R foot, then slightly bend R knee with left toe slightly off ground
- {hands sway backwards) Shift weight back onto L foot with right toe pointing forward, then slightly bend L knee
- {hands sway forwards} Shift weight forward with R foot, then slightly bend R knee with left toe slightly off ground
- {hands return to hips} Shift weight back onto L tiptoe, then bring R tiptoe back to meet it
- {hands on hips} Lower yourself from tiptoe, pause
[repeat "mirror image", reversing right and left]
Part B
- {hands sway at sides} Step with R foot to the right, then put L foot behind right foot
- {hands sway at sides} Cross R foot in front of L, then pivot to face RLOD swinging your L foot around but not stepping onto it yet
- (facing RLOD) {hands raised like a Tcherkessia} Finally step onto L foot, then step with R foot bringing it directly behind left foot
- (facing RLOD) {hands raised like a Tcherkessia} Step forward again with L foot, then again bring R foot directly behind left foot but this time do not step onto R foot
[repeat three times]
